Now we were really living in the jungle. Every night the chorus of cicadas sang in deafening layers so loud that we had to speak up to be heard. We rented bikes and sought time at each of the many beaches in the area. The kids took surfing lessons with “Peace” who was more laid back than the sloths in the trees. And yes, we took the time to catch up on some homework. But again, I was struck by the incredible intensity of the jungle. At night I could hear the creatures outside our screen windows. The most memorable moment by far was seeing a sloth cross the dirt road right in front of our house. These amazing creatures only come down out of the trees about once a week to use the washroom. We still can’t stop talking about being there to see it.
Casa Rameen is so much more beautiful than any of us had anticipated
Our family of 5 stayed at Casa Rameen for 10 days. What a truly wonderful experience. The home is located a few minutes walk from the main road and the beach giving it a private and safe setting. It has everything you need to feel at home and is close to beautiful beaches, hiking and the town of Puerto Viejo. As you lie in the hammocks in the garden you can listen to the sounds of the wildlife in the jungle including toucans and howler monkeys
The house was the perfect size for the four of us. The outdoor shower is amazing, hammocks were great for relaxing in the shade after surfing and the location is prime. Just a few minute walk puts you at cocles. Doable without transportation but a car or bike is helpful to zip in town. Quiet, private, clean and well maintained.
The house is absolutely fantastic. I could not have asked for a better house to have stayed in while on our trip. Puerto Viejo is a bit of a party town, but the house is down in Cocles, about 2 kilometers away, and is the perfect location. Out of the driveway is the best beach on the Caribbean side.....just perfect. And it's far enough away to be nice and quiet.
